This is our second time visiting Cafe Sevilla in Long Beach. My husband and I have a beautiful memory of visiting the one in San Diego during our honeymoon and we went to a family event at the (sadly now gone) Cafe Sevilla in Riverside. The restaurant has changed over the past (oof) 30 some years (I just dated myself). The original was very, very authentic, we had tapas that absolutely rivaled anything we had in Spain and we washed it down with a very dry jerez Tio Pepe. When we went to the one in Riverside, the menu had some changes, we noted more interpretation of Spanish food. It is fine, even in Spain there are innovations in traditional foods that make it exciting. Our family was ordering pitchers of Sangria, which is, to me, too sweet and too touristy. Then we went to Long Beach last year for our anniversary. We stuck to tapas and Spanish beer. My husband was thrilled they had non alcoholic Spanish beer. I had Estrella Dam (my favorite) and the tapas were pretty good. The bread is amazing. They have 1/2 off tapas on Tuesday, it is absolutely worth going to. Which brings us to our latest visit. We went with the kids (all heading off for their colleges) and we dragged Abuela (she's 102!) with us. We sat outside, plenty of room for Abuela's wheelchair. Nice atmosphere. We decided everyone will order a tapa and we will order Paella family style. I also ordered bread (get the one with the olives). I ordered the Salchichas, the table presentation was worth the order. The Salchichas were okay, I liked dipping my bread into the glaze. Two of the kids ordered the croquettes. They were disappointing. Gave off microwave vibes. My other one ordered the fried calamari. Looked like any other calamari, he wouldn't share, no idea how good or bad it was. My husband ordered the tortilla española. He loves tortilla, and thoroughly enjoyed his order. But, damm the portion is tiny. It is potato and egg, why such a small portion. I remember back in San Diego they would serve a super high slice of tortilla, then last year it was a small round individual ones, now it is this micro portion. We order half mushroom and half black paella and one traditional. The mushroom one was absolutely amazingly full of flavor and voted our favorite. The black one (my hubby and kids had black paella in Spain recently, so they thought good, not great), I thought it was really good. The seafood was just right. The traditional (which isn't REALLY traditional, but that is okay) just jammed packed with seafood, chorizo, and chicken. It was tasty. One thing I like (and if you know you know) paella needs to have a bit of churruscado, the traditional had that. It was well condiment, maybe a little bit on the salty side, the rice had the right amount moisture. I wish the waitress gave us bigger plates with the paella. Not a big deal. She was great and attentive. We had a very nice night.
Such a great location for an office happy hour! We ordered a variety of tapas, both hot and cold, and drinks. The papas bravas and the croqueta de queso y jamon were ordered repeatedly as they were our favorites. Another popular item was the calamares fritos. I also enjoyed the fusion of the sangarita for a refreshing drink and a nice twist of the typical margarita and sangria. The restaurant is dimly lit to add to the ambiance, and the live music which begins at 7 pm. It seemed to get busier around 7:30 p.m. for dinner service.
Ok I am impressed, stoped in on a Wed. night for dinner, normally I go for drinks and the live music, but decided on dinner Wed. is happy hour all day, we tried a few tapas that were amazing. service was good and the musis was fantastic.
Great drinks and lovely food. If I wasn't so lightweight I'd be coming here all the time. The music btw was pretty durn good on Sunday. The two DJs were definitely getting me riled up to dance. Service was decent as well. I think I loved the cheese empanada and the bacon wrapped dates the most. I can eat a trough of that stuff. Prolly cuz I was buzzing already lol. Check this place out if you're in downtown Long Beach
Fun brunch spot in Long Beach! Cafe Sevilla is a brunch spot / dinner spot in the heart of downtown Long Beach. My friends and I was so happy we tried this restaurant due to their extensive menu, the food and the music. For food, I ordered the lobster Benedict as well as the bottle of champagne for my friend and I. Everything we had was delicious. I do feel as if portion sizes could be a tad larger but the quality of the food was great. Service was great from the start of our visit until we left. our waitress was attentive and super nice: I will be back!
Located in downtown Long Beach, Cafe Sevilla is one of the many restaurant options in that area. As you walk inside, the lighting is dim, decorated with black iron rod and patterned Spanish tiling throughout the restaurant. There is also a stage in the center of the restaurant, providing entertainment throughout the night. We didn't have a reservation, so we were only allowed to sit in the outdoor patio area, away from the entertainment. That was a bit of a bummer, as the rest of the tables inside were not occupied. I guess they assumed we would stay longer for the entertainment and possibly run into a later reservation time for those tables. Either way, we could still hear the entertainment so we were okay with that. The food: GRILLED PULPO ROMESCO: Octopus, chorizo, kale, shallots, chickpeas, romesco hazelnut sauce. Octopus was grilled well, super tender bites. The tangy sauce on the kale was delicious. TRADITIONAL PAELLA VALENCIANA: Mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, chicken & grilled sausages. Beautiful presentation. The dish was packed with ingredients. The tender roasted peppers complimented the chicken and seafood very well. Overall, this is a great restaurant. Great food, great entertainment, couldn't ask for better.
